Jennifer Garner, Scott Foley Marriage 'Imploded,' Actress Says
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are happily married with three children, but it wasn't long ago when she was with Scott Foley. The two divorced after four years, and now the actress is speaking about that particular relationship.
"Oh, he's a great guy," Garner told Allure magazine. "We were full-on grown-ups, but looking back I'm aware we did not know what hit us. We didn't have a shot. He's a really good guy, and we just imploded."
Foley told TV Guide at the time that Garner's fame was to blame for the breakup, though he credited Garner with her own success.
"Nobody else was involved. Jennifer became a huge celebrity. She became a huge star, and she deserved everything she got. There was no other relationship; there was no infidelity, nothing. People get divorced, you know? Through no one's fault and everyone's fault," he explained.
Soon after Garner and Foley divorced, she began dating Ben Affleck, her co-star in "Daredevil." They married in 2005 and welcomed three children into their lives: daughters Violet, 7, and Seraphina, 4, and son Samuel, 18 months. They take turns working in order to ensure that one parent is able to provide care for their children, and Affleck has often credited his wife with supporting his career.
"I want to thank you for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases," Affleck said in a memorable Oscar speech this year. "It's good. It is work, but the best kind of work and there's no one I'd rather work with."
"I know Ben," Garner later replied. "I knew he meant it as the hugest, warmest compliment in the world. I think he was saying, 'Look, what we have is really real and I value it above all and I'm in it with you and I know you are in it with me.' That's the way I took it."
Affleck will next appear in the "Man of Steel" sequel, taking on the iconic role of Batman.
