Jennifer Hudson Serving as a Witness in Murder Trial?

Jennifer Hudson has not publicly discussed the details surrounding the 2008 murder of her mother, brother and nephew, however court documents have revealed that she will serve as a witness to the crime in an upcoming trial.

Now, details about the relationship between Hudson and alleged killer William Balfour, who was once married to the 30-year-old singer's sister Julia Hudson, have been unveiled by various court documents. The Cook County, Illinois prosecution's court filing included reports from detectives who interviewed Hudson after her mother and brother were fatally shot in their Chicago, Ill., home in 2008.

Hudson told the authorities that she knew Balfour as a child, and that they grew up in the same neighborhood and attended the same elementary school. However, the Chicago Tribune reported that Hudson did not approve of Julia marrying Balfour, who was jailed after eighth grade.

The singer's family did not find out about Julia's marriage to Balfour until months after the two went through with their nuptials. In the papers filed by the prosecution, detective reports also uncovered the fact that Julia's son from a previous marriage, Julian King, was the only family member in attendance aside from an uncle.

Hudson explained that her family was concerned with Balfour's troubled past in the court documents. The former "American Idol" contestant also claimed that the defendant mistreated her sister.

In the detective reports, Hudson recalled an incident that involved Balfour allegedly threatening to kill Julia at her job after assuming that she was having an extra-marital affair with a co-worker.

Hudson's 29-year-old murdered brother, Jason Hudson, was also affected by Balfour's behavior when he was alive.

Jason reportedly stopped inviting friends to the Hudson home after Julia's house keys went missing, along with a .45-caliber gun that was stolen from the house. Balfour was suspected of the crime, after allegedly bragging about stealing a weapon in the neighborhood.

Although Hudson has not spoken in detail about the murder of her brother Jason, mother Darnell Donerson and 7-year-old nephew Julian King, prosecutors maintained that she would be placed on the witness list for the trial that will begin April 9. However, there is no word about whether Hudson will testify in court during the trial.
