Jennifer Lawrence and $10 Million Pay Day for Hunger Games 2 - Catching Fire
Jennifer Lawrence will be paid $10 million for the second "Hunger Games" film called "Catching Fire."
The massive increase in her salary is expected to be confirmed in the coming days as negotiations near completion for the 21 year old actress' contract. Lawrence, who played main character Katniss Everdeen in the first film reportedly earned just $500,000 for the first installment in the movie franchise, but following its stunning success will now see her salary increase by 20 times, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Lawrence will be delighted with the news, but also to be part of the continuing Hunger Games saga, which will surely boost her profile and career even more.
Lawrence's pay scale is still relatively dwarfed by fellow actress Kristen Stewart's pay for the final "Twilight" film installment. Stewart was reportedly paid $20 million for "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2."
The first Hunger Games film raked in a massive $684 million worldwide, making the $10 million that main actress Jennifer Lawrence is claiming seen relatively minor.
Movie franchise series such as "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" have generally seen the box office increase as each move in the series is released. If the same follows for "The Hunger Games" then the second film in the franchise should beat the $684 million from the first installment.
Also as each new Hunger Games movie is made, if the franchise follows the same pattern as those other huge movie franchises, then Lawrence can expect to be paid more each time. For "Harry Potter" main character Daniel Radcliffe was paid $1 million for the first movie. But by the end of the series he was paid a whopping $33 million for the final installment "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2." That movie made more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
The "Harry Potter" films were based on a series of seven books by author JK Rowling, with the final book split into two movies. It is believed that the "Hunger Games" makers are thinking to split the third and final book in the trilogy into two movies, making it a four-part movie franchise. So all things being well Lawrence could potentially have two more even larger pay days in the works.
The Hunger Games' second film will be called "Catching Fire," where as the final two part films will be based on the third book entitled "Mockingjay."
