Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult Engaged? Magazine Apologizes for Fake Marriage Reports

Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult engagement rumors were spread by a tabloid, and they are now apologizing for the gross oversight. The apology came after reps for the Hollywood couple blasted the tabloid for their "reckless" reporting.

Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult aren't engaged, but that's not what OK! magazine reported Feb. 3. They ran a story stating that the 24-year-old Hoult proposed to Lawrence, 23, by getting down on one knee in the traditional way in Kentucky, where the actress is from.

However, it wasn't long before reps denied the rumors.

"[OK! magazine] recklessly published … without ever checking with a representative of Lawrence or Hoult," a representative for the "Catching Fire" actress said. The move forced the tabloid to recant their initial report.

"OK! reported in our February 3 issue that Jennifer Lawrence's boyfriend Nicholas Hoult, 24, proposed to the 23-year-old actress on Christmas Eve at her family's home in Kentucky," their statement, published in their latest statement, said. "We have since learned that Nicholas was back in his native England during the holidays. We apologize for the error."

Lawrence and Hoult initially met on the set of "X-Men: First Class" in 2010, but broke up in January of 2013 because they were "young and grew apart." Now it seems they are a stronger couple than ever, even though marriage may not be in the immediate future.

"My boyfriend is honestly my best friend, and hopefully I'm his best friend too," she told Elle a month before their breakup. "He's my favorite person to be around, and he makes me laugh harder than anybody."

"He has absolutely no idea how good-looking he is," she gushed to Vogue U.K. previously. "I think a lot of women hate me for that."
