Jennifer Lopez to Produce and Possibly Star as 'Carmen Sandiego'
Jennifer Lopez has been lined up to produce “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego,” the famous video game-turned movie. It has also been rumored that the superstar could star as the title character, a thieving villain.
The media franchise was originally an educational video game and became a television show as well as many books. Users become agents of the ACME Detective Agency who attempt to find the protagonist, Sandiego, by using geography, history, mathematics, and English.
Lopez’s movie would be the first time the franchise has reached the big screen - in the 90’s Disney picked up the story and had Sandra Bullock slated as the lead role, but the version was never developed.
The news comes as Lopez recently wrapped up production of “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” co-starring Cameron Diaz. The film looks at the lives of five couples as they prepare for parenthood, and will reach theaters In May.
In January, “American Idol” will return to television with Lopez serving as host again. The star was confirmed to return for eleventh season by Fox in August.
Currently going through a divorce from Marc Anthony, the singer dedicated part of a recent performance to her soon-to-be ex husband.
“I’m going to sing you the last song I wrote about love,” J. Lo. told her audience at the Mohegan Sun’s 15th anniversary celebration concert last month. “A lot has changed since then.”
Lopez had just finished a version of her hit song “If You Had My Love” when she opened “Until It Beats No More.”
During the performance, dancers portrayed ex-husbands and ex-boyfriends of Lopez’s past.
Lopez, 42, has been married three times, and was formerly linked to rapper Diddy as well as actor Ben Affleck.
The final part of the performance saw dancers who resembled Lopez and Anthony. The dancers performed in the same way the former couple had while appearing on “American Idol” last May, just months before they announced their divorce.
