Jeremy Lin Makes Second Consecutive Sports Illustrated Cover

The Linsanity continued this week as New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin graced his second Sports Illustrated cover in a row.

Lin is the first athlete to be featured on two consecutive covers since Dirk Nowitzki did it back in June of 2011. He is also only the third NBA player to hold two consecutive Sports Illustrated covers, along with Nowitzki and Michael Jordan.

Jordan actually held the Sports Illustrated cover spot three weeks in a row twice, once in 1991 and again in 1998.

Sports Illustrated announced the cover today by tweeting a picture of the cover along with, "Yes, it's still 'Jeremy's World.'"

The undrafted Harvard point guard rose to prominence two and a half weeks ago with a fantastic game against the New Jersey Nets. Before that performance, Lin had been waived by two other NBA teams during the offseason and was apparently on the verge of being cut by the Knicks.

Since then, Lin has led the Knicks to an 8-2 record while averaging 24.6 points, 9.4 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.4 steals as a starter. Lin has also become the eighth ranked player in the NBA in Player Efficiency Rating, which attempts to determine a player's value to his team regardless of mitigating factors like game pace and number of possessions.

In addition to his success on the court, Lin has become famous for being both an Asian-American and a devout Christian.

According to Sports Illustrated, the American-born Lin has become even more popular in China than native basketball superstar Yao Ming.

Lin has also faced controversy over his race, most notably with an ESPN story and an on-air comment that used a racial slur in recapping one of Lin's games. ESPN has reprimanded both the editor and the anchor, both of whom insist that the slur was unintentional.

As a Christian, Lin has often credited his success in the NBA to God. During his time at Harvard, Lin actually led a Bible study among his fellow students and frequently gave interviews to campus Christian publications.
