Jeremy Lin May Return Earlier Than Expected Against Miami Heat
Jeremy Lin, New York Knicks starting point guard who is undergoing rehabilitation after knee surgery, accomplished a big feat on his path to recovery recently. Before his team's loss in game one of the first round of the playoffs against the Miami Heat on Saturday, Lin played his first game of one-on-one since his surgery on April 2.
Lin and Knicks assistant coach Kenny Atkinson worked out and played one-on-one about three hours before the team played Miami in a 100-67 game at American Airlines Arena. The move is an important one in his recovery process, which Lin seemed unsure about a few weeks ago.
"Scared to say that right now," Lin responded in a New York Times report after being asked about how long his recovery would take. "Because all the doctors are saying that this is normal - like after about one and a half to two weeks is when you can really see how well you're doing."
A few weeks ago, Lin admitted that the hard part of recovery would be cutting and lateral movement.
"It's the cutting and the jumping that's going to be the tricky part," Lin said.
However, Lin seemed to be one step closer to recovery after getting back on the court on Saturday. According to Marc Berman who covers the New York Knicks closely for the New York Post, Lin may have a chance to return in the team's current series against the Miami Heat.
"If Lin feels well in the next few days - the second-year point-guard sensation could return if the first-round series is extended," Berman wrote. "That would beat the six-week timetable from his arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus."
