Jeremy Lin's Jersey Auctioned for Thousands
Jeremy Lin's time in the NBA D-League is being celebrated with his Erie Bayhawks jersey being auctioned on eBay and receiving bids of almost $4,000.
Jeremy Lin is beaming in popularity as he led the New York Knicks to a defeat of the defending champion, Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. Spike Lee was seen wearing Jeremy Lin's Harvard jersey and Lin's game-worn jerseys, from time spent in the NBA D-League, are selling for thousands of dollars.
Lin's now-legendary stint in the D-League is being celebrated by the BayHawks. The No. 17 BayHawks jersey was made available Saturday and received 15 bids. The opening bid started at $1,500 and now had a high-bid of $3,950 as of Sunday, according to Geoerie.com. His jersey also comes with a letter of authenticity signed by BayHawks team president Matt Bresee.
In addition to his game-worn Erie BayHawks jersey receiving a high-bid of almost $4,000, Lin's practice jersey is going for $1,025 and his shooting shirt for $750, according to the Boston Herald.
The jersey is being auctioned by the BayHawks and they plan to donate a portion of the proceeds to Erie-area charities. The auction has until Saturday to receive additional bids.
Lin was sent to play for the BayHawks by the New York Knicks to play two games in the NBA Development League in January. In his first game, he put up 28 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds. The BayHawks won in Lin's debut 122-113. The NBA recently re-broadcasted a replay of Lin's game with the BayHawks against the Maine Red Claws.
An ankle injury prevented Lin from playing for the BayHawks again until a later rematch. He soon rejoined the Knicks after playing in the NBA's D-League and led a historic resurgence, winning seven games in a row.
The jersey, shorts and warm-up suit that Lin wore in his New York Knicks debut sold for $40,000 this past week on eBay.
