'Jessica Jones' Season 2: New Big Bad Is Exact Opposite of Kilgrave
Jessica (Krysten Ritter) will fight not one, but several evil incarnates in the upcoming season of "Jessica Jones." However, not one of them will bear a resemblance to the last big bad, Kilgrave (David Tennant).
In August, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg told Entertainment Weekly that it would be a mistake to have another Kilgrave in the show. According to her, Tennant's portrayal of the mind-controlling villain was so brilliant, anything that follows would pale in comparison. Kilgrave's obsession with Jessica pushed him to do unspeakable things. He took over her mind and killed innocent people. The nightmare had a lasting effect on Jessica, who was already broken to begin with.
"Or antagonists, plural. No one is ever going to beat David Tennant as Kilgrave, so you don't do that. The biggest mistake would be to try to repeat that. You just go, 'OK, we're not doing that, so we have this open to us,'" the EP said.
When asked who this new antagonist could be, she added: "I can't spoil a surprise."
Rosenberg hinted that the adversaries they are preparing for the heroine would be a lot different, but they are by no means harmless. Jessica needs to get over her trauma quickly and focus on saving people to avoid many deaths. It remains a mystery if she will be getting help from her Defender friends. Jessica, Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox, aka Daredevil) and Danny Rand (Finn Jones) will first be seen in the other Netflix series set to air this year.
Speaking of Luke, it would be interesting to see if he will continue to play Jessica's love interest in the second season. According to Mic, Luke has already forgiven Jessica for killing his wife. Her mind was being controlled by Kilgrave when she did that. If this is the case, there is a possibility that Luke will return to win back her heart.
"Jessica Jones" season 2 is expected to return in 2018.
