Jessica Simpson Returns to Television With Sitcom
Jessica Simpson has signed a deal with NBC for a scripted comedy television series, the network announced Tuesday.
Writer Nick Bakey will base the pilot script for the show on real-life events in Simpson's life, according to E! News. The scriptwriter's past credits include "'Til Death," "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," and "Zookeeper."
Alternately, "Fashion Star" producer Electus and Universal will co-produce the upcoming series, while Bakey, Ben Silverman, and Simpson's father Joe will sign on as executive producers.

"I am so excited to work with Ben and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy," said Simpson in a statement. "I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life- so between the real life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing!"
Perhaps the things Simpson finds so unique to her life include becoming pregnant with her second child within six months after welcoming her first.
Simpson and her fiancé, NFL player Nick Johnson, welcomed daughter Maxwell Drew on May 1. Then, on Christmas Day, Simpson confirmed rumors that she was expecting again when she posted a picture of Maxwell sitting before the words "Big Sis" written in sand.
"It definitely wasn't planned," said a source close to Simpson speaking to Us Weekly about the actress' second pregnancy. "But yes, Jessica is pregnant again."
Meanwhile, Silverman, founder and chairman of Electus, compared Simpson to a "modern day Lucy" from the hit television series of the '50's, "I Love Lucy."
"We are thrilled to team up with the multi-talented Jessica Simpson to being this new sitcom to life on NBC as she is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops," said the executive producer.
"From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud," added Silverman.
The series will mark Simpson's second show based on her life. The 32-year-old previously starred on MTV's "Newlyweds" from 2003 to 2005 with her then-husband Nick Lachey.
