Jill Kelley Speaks Out: 'Truth Will Prevail'
Jill Kelley, the Tampa socialite who helped uncover the David Petraeus sex scandal, recently spoke out in a complaint to her local mayor. She claims that her link to the scandal has led to threats being made against her family.
Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, who admittedly has not helped Kelley despite her recent pleas, received two emails from her on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. In her emails the married mother of three claims that she has "been exploited by the media."
"Dear Mayor Bob," Kelley began, continuing that she, Petraeus and General John R. Allen- she allegedly exchanged sexually explicit emails with him- 'have been exploited by the media.'"
"I wouldn't care - if they got the facts right and the focus was on the criminal that stalked all of us," she went on referring to Petraeus' alleged mistress Paula Broadwell. "But the truth will one day prevail."
Kelley, who has been described as a social climber by her critics, has an unpaid position as a social liaison for MacDill Air Force Base.
Her years-long friendship with Petraeus somehow prompted Broadwell to send threatening emails, insisting that she "stay away" from the 37-year military veteran. The threats prompted Kelley's complaint to the FBI, which ultimately led to the discovery of the now-infamous extramarital affair that ended his career.
In one email to Buckhorn revealed on TampaBay.com, Kelley complained that the media frenzy outside of her home was forcing her husband to sleep at work and preventing her daughter from leaving the house to go to school "because it's just gotten too difficult to even pull out of our own driveway."
"I'm scared and cannot believe what my city - in which I have contributed so much of my love, time, money and leadership, has now done to me and my innocent family," Kelley wrote.
She also went on to complain about police allegedly releasing her recent 911 calls to the media. Kelley had previously complained to the police about the media frenzy outside of her home prior to emailing Buckhorn; in a bizarre rant she requested "diplomatic protection" from the press due to her role as honorary consul to South Korea.
"To put insult to injury, your police dept gave the local 911 tapes to the press!" she wrote, adding that the tapes included her phone number so "I have been receiving threats all night."
Buckhorn revealed that while he knows Kelley socially, he has not provided her with any form of media protection. When asked about the 911 recordings being released to the media, Buckhorn responded by saying "public record."
