Navy service, Sunday School teacher: 5 interesting facts about Jimmy Carter
Volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, even after turning 90
For over 35 years, the Carters volunteered for the notable charity Habitat for Humanity, with Jimmy having helped to build houses even after he hit the milestone age of 90.
“Throughout their involvement with the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former first lady Rosalynn Carter have been tireless advocates, active fundraisers and some of our best hands-on construction volunteers,” explained the charity.
In 2016, at the age of 91 and having recently completed treatments for brain cancer, Carter and his wife helped to build homes in Memphis, Tennessee.
“We didn’t know of any treatment for that type of cancer, so I thought I had just a few weeks to live,” said Carter back in 2016, as reported by CNN. “I wasn’t sure I would be back or not … But luckily, here I am.”
