JK Rowling Adult Novel Says Good Bye to Harry Potter

Little Brown and Company has just confirmed that it will be publishing J.K. Rowling's next novel. However, it may dismay some Harry Potter fans to discover that the new novel will be written for an adult audience.

J.K. Rowling has officially moved from Scholastic to Little Brown and Company, leaving Harry Potter behind her. Although the news may come as a shock for some Potter fans, it could also be good news.

It may be difficult for Potter fans to let go of their favorite childhood hero, but the truth is that Rowling's fans have grown up as much as Potter himself. Daniel Radcliffe was cast to star in the first Harry Potter film when he was only 11. The now 22 year old, has long left his wand behind.

The title and release date for Rowling's new novel have yet to be released. The only detail confirmed is that it will be targeted at an adult audience.

Rowling spoke to the Washington Post about letting go of her old characters, which she has cherished as much as her fans have. "Although I've enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world," Rowling said.

She also supported her reasoning for moving on to a new publisher.

"The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry's success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher," she commented. "I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life."

Despite the changes, fans have not been discouraged by Rowling.

"JK Rowling announcing a new book is almost like God announcing a follow-up to the Bible," Natalie Summers wrote on Twitter. Many other fans had positive things to add.
