Joaquin Phoenix Home, Actor Spends $1.3M Next Door

Joaquin Phoenix has purchased a new home right next door to his current house, sparking rumors that the actor plans on building a large new compound.

The "Walk the Line" star just bought a 2,511-square-foot house right beside of his existing home in the Hollywood Hills for $1.3 million, according to Celebuzz.

Begging rumors that Phoenix plans to expand his property, the actor's current home is "rather ordinary by Hollywood standards," according to the real estate blog Trulia. The report indicated that the 38-year-old star could be looking to jazz up his living space.

The new home is located at Mulholland and Laurel Canyon and boasts three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a stone waterfall and a custom outdoor fireplace, among other amenities.

Although it is smaller than Phoenix's current home, the new property is complete with a grassy landscaped courtyard, a large patio, and view of both the canyons and the city.

Furthermore, the new home features upgrades such as a refurbished kitchen and top-of-the-line appliances.

Meanwhile, the Academy Award-nominated actor bought his current 3,753-square-foot home seven years ago for $4.8 million.

It was the same home featured in Phoenix's "mock-umentary" titled "I'm Still Here." The musical drama famously tricked many into believing that Phoenix wanted to quit acting in order to pursue rapping.

Jack Nicholson, Billy Crystal, Bruce Willis and Robin Wright all made cameo appearances as themselves in the film.

Some of Phoenix's film credits include "Gladiator," "The Master," and "Walk the Line," for which he earned a Grammy Award after portraying Johnny Cash.

The actor is known for his eccentricity, as well as for his famous family that includes his late brother River Phoenix.

River died on Oct. 31, 1993 at the age of 23 of heart failure caused by an overdose of cocaine and heroin.
