Jobs Bashed Fox News to CEO Murdoch, Conversation Quoted in Biography

Steve Jobs was not a fan of Fox News network, a sentiment that he made clear to the channel’s owner Rupert Murdoch.

Reuters recently detailed a section in Walter Isaacson’s biography on the late technology innovator where Jobs expressed his feelings to Murdoch.

“The axis today is not liberal and conservative, the axis is constructive-destructive, and you’ve cast your lot with destructive people. Fox has become an incredibly destructive force in our society. You can be better, and this is going to be your legacy if you’re not careful,” reads an excerpt from the biography that quoted Jobs during a conversation with Murdoch.

The reported conversation took place at NewsCorp’s annual management retreat in June 2010. Jobs also said Murdoch is “blowing it with Fox News."

News Corp, the media conglomerate helmed by Rupert Murdoch, was behind the iPad’s only publication: “The Daily”. Jobs was supposed to introduce the publication’s application shortly before he took a medical at the Feb. 2 launch.

Jobs also reportedly asked Murdoch to provide him with a video reel of Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity shows. Murdoch agreed, and Jobs asked a similar reel to be made by Jon Stewart’s Daily show team ⎯a show known for its criticism of Fox.

According to Isaacson, Jobs believed that Murdoch was not happy with the direction of Fox News.

“Rupert’s a builder, not a tearer-downer,” Jobs told Isaacson. “I’ve had some meetings with James, and I think he agrees with me. I can just tell.”
