Jodi Arias Retrial Date Set for March
Today Jodi Arias learned that her sentencing retrial will begin on March 17. The convicted murderer will finally be sentenced for killing her boyfriend, Travis Alexander. The family of Alexander is happy with the news of impending justice.
"Letting everybody know, the trial isn't due to start until mid-February," Travis' family wrote on their Facebook page. "We believe this is a tactic to try and get us to throw in the towel. We will not! I say it again it won't happen. Our family will come together and see it through until it is finished. There is a monster that haunts us, but once the correct sentence is given, it's her who will be haunted until the most humane punishment comes to her. Nothing compared to the sentence she gave to a good man. Anyhow, the entire Alexander family thanks all of you."
Arias was convicted of brutally killing Alexander by stabbing him repeatedly, slashing his throat, then shooting him in the head. The jury could not agree whether she should receive the death penalty and remained at an impasse. Now, a new jury will be selected and decide Arias' fate. One thing that will be very different this time around is the fact that no live TV will be allowed in the courtroom.
Arias became a household name due to coverage of the court case. She has maintained a presence in the public sphere by having a friend help with her Twitter account, selling her hand-drawn artwork and bracelets to help make money for her expenses.
Her story has garnered national attention and been made into a Lifetime made-for-TV movie. Arias is a controversial figure, with many wanting to see her put to death, while others maintain that she should be given life without parole because she was defending herself against Alexander. She had hoped to plead out before going back to a sentencing trial but prosecutors and defense attorneys could not reach an agreement.
