Jodi Arias Tweets About God's Love While Awaiting Sentencing
Jodi Arias is tweeting again, thanks to the help of a friend who posts messages on her behalf. In one of her latest tweets, Arias spoke about God's love and quoted a prominent Mormon leader.
"God's love is so great that He loves even the proud, the selfish, the arrogant, and the wicked. – Dieter F. Uchtdorf," Arias posted on Wednesday, as the sentencing phase of her trial began.
Uchtdorf is the second counselor of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was installed on Feb. 3, 2008 but has been a member of the Church since 1962. In addition to being a second counselor, Uchtdorf has given several speeches and addresses as well as written numerous articles, oen of which Arias drew the quote from.
Arias converted to Mormonism in order to keep her relationship with Travis Alexander, who was a devout convert to the religion. The two participated in activities at the church and Arias worked to try and fit into the Mormon lifestyle, while Alexander had no problem with the routine.
Her tweeting throughout her murder trial has brought her even more attention and fame. She currently has over 60,000 followers and has mainly used the site to offer her own commentary about the trial, as well as to promote several projects she is working on, including her personal artwork.
She posted a link to a website that is now selling "Survivor" t-shirts in order to promote awareness of domestic violence. Arias maintained that Alexander was abusive throughout their relationship and that she only killed him in self-defense. Profits from the t-shirt will go to a domestic violence organization chosen by Arias.
Arias has not talked about her faith before, and the tweet marks a seeming change in her attitude. Jurors have determined that she is eligible for the death penalty, and as the case continues, it is likely that Arias will in fact be sentenced to death. She has asked for the death penalty, which she said is "the ultimate freedom."
