Joe Namath on Tim Tebow: Jets 'Trying to Get Media Headlines'?

Joe Namath has given harsh commentary to the Jets, stating that the team has a lack of talent and makes poor decisions when it comes do drafting new players. One of those decision involves Tim Tebow, who has seen a lack of playing time so far.

The Hall of Fame quarterback and former Jets player is apparently not satisfied with the team's 3-5 record. And the problem with the team, according to Namath, is a lack of overall talent.

"I don't know who's picking the players we bring in. … I'm disappointed in the talent we have, and I think you gotta start looking at who's doing the picking and why," Namath said in an SNY podcast.

He charged that there is no excuse for the lack of talent on the team stating that other, more "consistent" teams have managed to find new talent when the Jets had not.

"I don't want to hear about 'Can't find talent,'" he added. "How do the other teams around the league that are so consistent continually find talent?"

Amongst their new selections is former Bronco quarterback, Tim Tebow, who Namath has accused the Jets of picking for the sake of media coverage.

"I think it's been disrespectful. We can go right to the Tebow thing. I mean, come on. If you're bringing him in to play, where's he been?" Namath argued. "Are you bringing him in to make other people practice longer? Excuse me. Are you bringing him in, trying to get media headlines?"

Tebow has remained a standing controversy on the team. Some fans have urged the Jets to offer Tebow more playing time, especially when Mark Sanchez isn't bringing his A-game. But other fans prefer him on the bench. Thus far the player has seen less than 8 snaps per game.

Either way, Namath says that the fans just aren't being treated right.

"I think that the fans haven't been given a fair shake," Namath added. "I don't think they get a straight story, often enough, from the powers that be. I think it's kind of condescending talk a bunch of times, telling us how they're developing and who they're getting."
