John C. Maxwell, author of more than 30 books and called the nation's foremost expert on leadership, is speaking to leaders across the positional board ahead of his soon-to-be released book, The 360 Degree Leader.

Injoy, which develops thousands of new and emerging leaders each year, has scheduled a live taping on Dec. 9 where Maxwell will speak from his new book. The event, which is being held at Petit Leadership Center in Atlanta, Ga., targets those who lead from the middle of an organization, which is the vast majority of professionals. Myths and challenges usually associated with the "middle" leader will be debunked and overcome as Maxwell teaches the skills needed to become a “360 degree leader.”

While many associate leadership to a top figure in an organization, Maxwell describes leadership at all levels – whether one is positioned on top, the middle or the lower end. Rather than viewing leadership as a position, the author reveals that it is about influence. The role of a leader not only requires guiding those below, but also leading peers, those above and all around.

"The 360 Degree Leader is not a myth," said a statement on the Injoy website. "You have a unique opportunity to exercise influence in all directions - up (to the boss), across (among your peers), and down (to those you lead)."

Rather than being an event-oriented meeting, the nearly five-hour-long live taping mainly serves to help leaders and organizations nationwide in training and skill development. DVD training kits will be produced from the event and made available next year.

A more in-depth leader training workshop is scheduled for Feb. 21-22, 2006 where instructors from every organizational level will provide practical insights and relevant behaviors on becoming a 360 degree leader.

Each year, Maxwell speaks live to more than 350,000 people. Known as a dynamic communicator, he is in high demand on the topic of leadership and also is a popular speaker for churches, non-profits, sports organizations, and television programs. In addition, he dedicates time each year to teaching leadership internationally.
