'John Wick 3' News: Director Chad Stahelski Clarifies That 'John Wick 3' Is Not a Done Deal

"John Wick: Chapter 2" has finally hit the cinemas this weekend, but months before the sequel came out, people were already talking about how the third movie is already in the works. Many have assumed that "John Wick 3" is already a done deal, but that might not be the case after all.

In an interview with Screen Rant, director Chad Stahelski clarified that the third film hasn't been given the green light by Lionsgate just yet. "I'll say this: we've been asked to give [John Wick 3] thought. No one has been consigned anything specific other than, "we'd like to do one, would you be interested in doing another one?" ... Personally, I'd like to be involved in some creative capacity," he stated.

The studio probably wants to see how well "John Wick: Chapter 2" does at the box office first before they green light the next project. So far the film has been well-received by critics. The question is, will moviegoers watch it? "John Wick" was a critically acclaimed film as well; however, it only made $86 million worldwide. That's not bad for a film with a $20 million budget, but those are not blockbuster numbers.

Keanu Reeves spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently and he said would absolutely return for a third movie if they decide to make it. "I love the character and the world," he stated. However, he also admitted that everything would depend on "John Wick: Chapter 2's" success at the box office.

"If they enjoy what we did — and hopefully they do, fingers-crossed, I really dig it — but if they do enjoy it, then I'll have the chance to continue the story of the character and the world," Reeves said.

"John Wick 3" is still very much up in the air, but Reeves already has some ideas for the film. Right now, fans of the franchise will have to wait for Lionsgate to make a decision on the third installment.
