Johnny Depp Offers Humble Apology for Rape-Photo Shoot Comparison

Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp is apologizing after his comments comparing a photo shoot to rape set off a firestorm of criticism.

In the November issue of Vanity Fair, Depp is quoted as saying: “Well, you just feel like you’re being raped somehow. Raped ... It feels like a kind of weird – just weird.”

He added, “Whenever you have a photo shoot or something like that, it’s like – you just feel dumb.”

Following the release of the interview, RAINN or Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network immediately called for an apology from the “Willy Wonka” star.

RAINN spokesperson Katherine Hull released a statement to Fox News in response to Depp’s comments.

RAINN said, “While photos may feel at times intrusive, being photographed in no way compares to rape - a violent crime which affects another American every two minutes,” in addition she added “RAINN welcomes the opportunity to speak with Mr. Depp and educate him about the real life experiences faced by survivors every day, and ways that he can work with RAINN to help."

The apology resonated with Johnny Depp who on Tuesday released an apology to RAINN and all others offended.

Depp said, “I am truly sorry for offending anyone in any way. I never meant to. It was a poor choice of words on my part in an effort to explain a feeling,”

In addition, he added, “I understand there is no comparison and I am very regretful. In an effort to correct my lack of judgment, please accept my heartfelt apology.”

On Wednesday, RAINN announced that they accepted the letter of apology from Johnny Depp and added "We hope to work with him to provide hope to victims of rape and make sure they get the help they deserve."

Johnny Depp will next be seen on the big screen staring as Paul Kemp in the movie “The Rum Diary.”

The film will be released on Oct. 28.
