Josh Hamilton Relapse Leads to Involvement of MLB Doctors
Major League Baseball star Josh Hamilton faced a very public relapse with alcohol last week and was spotted visiting with league doctors in New York City on Monday.
New staff assistant and chaperone Shayne Kelley joined the Texas Rangers outfielder on his Monday visit to doctors working for the baseball association.
Hamilton was spotted drinking alcohol at Dallas area bar a little over a week ago.
Following the news of the incident the baseball star held a press conference to apologize for his relapse.
"My life in general is based on making the right choices. As far as my recovery, as far as baseball goes, it's all based around my relationship with the Lord," Hamilton told the press as he apologized for the relapse.
"I had a weak moment on Monday night in Dallas," the humbled star explained. "I was just wrong."
The 30-year-old baseball star, who has been referred to as a modern day Mickey Mantle, has a long history of drug and alcohol abuse and was banned from MLB in 2003 for several years due to his struggles with addiction.
Hamilton was reinstated into the league in 2006 but fell under controversy again in 2009 after photos of him surfaced shirtless in a bar in Tempe, Ariz. Prior to the 2009 slip-up, Hamilton had not turned to drugs or alcohol since he made a vow to stay sober following a prayer to God asking him help in October 2005.
Hamilton has been very public about his struggles with addiction and shared how his faith in God transformed his life through his autobiography, Beyond Belief. In the book, Hamilton discusses how finding Jesus changed his life and enabled him to change his lifestyle.
"It's amazing over the last few years what God has done with my life and how quickly he's done it," Hamilton said in 2008 after he setting a new single round home run record at a 2008 game in Yankee Stadium.
