Joyce Meyer Shares Mission to Rescue 27 Million Trapped in Bondage of Slavery Worldwide
Christian author Joyce Meyer is speaking out on the global epidemic of sexual slavery and forced labor by sharing her ministry's efforts to work with nonprofit organizations that are rescuing victims trapped in bondage worldwide.
"It is a human tragedy beyond our imagination. Every 30 seconds, someone becomes a victim of modern day slavery, with an estimated 27 million in bondage to either forced labor or sex trafficking. It affects women, children and men across the globe," Meyer said in a video posted on her Ministry's Facebook page on Tuesday, promoting the work of nonprofits that are helping victims, such as Hand of Hope and the A21 Campaign.
"My passion is to rescue as many victims as possible," she added, calling the grim fate of victims an "unbelievable darkness."
Several global movements against human trafficking have also said that people need to stand up to such forms of oppression, with the "End It" movement also estimating that there are around 27 million people trapped in slavery around the world.
Statistics show that slavery is the second-largest global organized crime, generating as much as $150.2 billion per year in profits.
Meyer has spoken about the rights of victims on numerous occasions, and has shared her own troubled story growing up, when she faced sexual abuse. She revealed in April that she was raped at least 200 times by her father.
"He didn't force me physically, but through lies, and manipulation, and fears, and threats, I was still forced," she said at the time.
"My father did rape me, numerous times, at least 200 times."
The Christian speaker explained that she was sharing her story in order to show people that there is hope no matter what situation they find themselves in.
"How can that have happened to me, and me be standing here today, if God is not alive and well?" she asked her audience.
"I want people to know how good God is, and that your struggle is worth it, your journey is worth it. Don't give up," she said.
Hand of Hope, which is a missions arm of Joyce Meyer Ministries, explains that it seeks to help 'alleviate human suffering and to help Christians grow in their faith,' with a major focus being on rescuing women and children from human trafficking.
In her latest video, Meyer noted that the Bible talks about bringing deliverance to the oppressed, and bringing judgment to the oppressor.
"That's important, because it's great to deliver a girl that's been hurt, but it's even better if you take the one that's hurt her [and] get them out of the picture, where they can no longer hurt other people," the Christian author said.
