'Jurassic World 2' Premiere Date & Update: To Start Filming in 2017, Original Cast & High Heels Will Not Return
After being a box office hit, it's no surprise anymore that the science fiction adventure film "Jurassic World" is getting a sequel. According to Youth Health, "Jurassic World 2" instantly became a sure deal after the first movie garnered $1.67 billion in the global box office and $651 million domestically since its premiere early this year.
With the production team already working on the new plot, the sequel is expected to arrive in the cinemas by July 2018. Big changes are bound to happen including the rumors that the dinosaur theme park would no longer be featured, as noted in Movie News Guide.
And since they're aiming to create a film that is completely meant to appeal to an entirely new audience, there's no chance that the original stars in the "Jurassic Park" franchise will be returning to the upcoming "Jurassic World" sequel.
As Director Colin Trevorrow said in Movie Pilot, "I never saw a draft in which they were included, and I think I looked at every iteration at least once. That was because Steven had a mission to make something new, and he really wanted it to be a Jurassic Park for a new generation."
Trevorrow directed the first film but according to Crossmap, he will not be directing the second installment in the franchise. Instead, he will be focusing on co-writing the screenplay with Derek Connolly, who also co-wrote for "Jurassic World."
And although not much details have been revealed about the sequel, it has been confirmed already that Velociraptor-whisperer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Park Operations Manager Clair Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) will be reprising their roles. But will Howard's character be running again in heels?
Fortunately, she will no longer be sprinting away from human-eating creatures in heels as sources detailed that Claire will be a different person. She was a ruthless career woman in the beginning of the first movie but by the end of it, she became a different woman and learned to embrace her badass side.
"Jurassic World 2" is set to start filming in 2017 and scheduled to premiere on June 22, 2018.
