'Jurassic World: The Game' News: Where Gamers Can 'Build and Battle'
The world of dinosaurs has gone mobile. "Jurassic World: The Game" hit iOS and Android devices two weeks ago, almost the same time as the box-office movie "Jurassic World" hit theaters worldwide. The game has breached the 2 million download mark since its release.
The game was developed by mobile game company Ludia in partnership with Amblin Entertainment and Universal Partnerships and Licensing. Ludia has had a hand in similar game development, having developed the game "Jurassic Park Builder." They started work on the current game about one and a half year ago.
The game reflects the actual characters and the movie's storyline, owing to the fact that the developers had a chance to visit the actual locations where the film was shot and had a chance to watch how the movie was shot and made.
"We flew to Kauai – where they made the movie – to go on the set and talk to Colin [Trevorrow] about the movie, and we also met in Santa Monica with all the producers to ask questions. You get to see behind the scenes of how they made the movie — and for the game itself, it helps because you learn a lot of background stories about the characters that you don't see in the movie."
The dinosaurs created for the game however were a different matter – according to the game designers, they were created with inspiration from the Internet.
The game has two main aspects: build and battle. In Build, players can create their own theme park on Isla Nublar. More than 50 species of dinosaurs can be collected and players need to feed them so that they get to the next level, when they can become stronger dinosaurs, and eventually can be modified genetically so that hybrid dinosaurs can be created.
The Battle aspect of the game means that players can pit their dinosaurs against those of other players in the Battle Arena. Battles are turn-based, and once a dinosaur is used in battle, the dinosaur must be given time to rest before it can do battle again. The point of the battle feature is to "create stronger actions" either for attack or defense.
"Jurassic World: The Game" is free to download, with in-app purchases for card packs mainly for food production and building.
