'Justice League Movie' News: Zack Snyder Explains 'Snub' on Grant Gustin's 'The Flash'
Director Zack Snyder finally shed light on why Grant Gustin was not chosen to suit up as the Scarlet Speedster for the upcoming "Justice League: Part 1" movie that he will helm.
Many fans of Grant Gustin's "The Flash" on CW were expecting that he would be handpicked to suit up for the same role in DC and Warner Bros. 2017 "Justice League." Hence, it goes without saying that many were left in dismay after it was revealed that actor Ezra Miller had finally bagged the role for the big screen incarnation of Barry Allen/The Flash via "The Justice League: Part 1" and will also top bill the standalone movie feature of the DC superhero slated for a 2018 release.
Speaking to The NY Daily News, the director disclosed that Gustin was never been considered to reprise his role on TV for the movie, despite how well "The Flash" is received by the TV viewing public.
"I just don't think it was a good fit. I'm very strict with this universe and I just don't see a version where...that (tone is) not our world," Snyder reasoned.
True enough, Snyder made a valid point as "The Flash" series on CW follows a different path as compared to Snyder's darker take of superhero stories in his movies as exemplified in the 2013 "Man of Steel" top-billed by "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" Henry Cavill.
"Even if Grant Gustin is my favorite guy in the world and he's very good, we made a commitment to the multiverse (idea)," Snyder continued, "so it's just not a thing that's possible," the director further explained.
DC's multiverse concept has already been tackled even on "The Flash" series. It is DC's imagining of having different universes where people from this "Earth" have another version of themselves in other worlds. However, whatever is happening in this Earth doesn't necessarily mean that the same goes in Earth 2 and in other Earths. It is the concept of an alternate reality for residents of this Earth in all possible ways. It is even possible for Gustin's The Flash to come face to face with Miller's version. The possibilities are endless in this concept.
"Justice League: Part 1," though not the official title yet as disclosed by Snyder in an earlier interview, is scheduled for a Nov. 17, 2017 playdate. On the other hand, Miller's standalone movie feature of the "The Flash" is slated for a March 2018 release.
