'Justice League' News, Release Date: New Promo Image Shows Aquaman Underwater
"Justice League" is opening in theaters in a few weeks, and Warner Bros. is already doubling up its efforts in promoting the film. This week, a new image from the film has been released, showing Aquaman (Jason Momoa) underwater for the first time.
Momoa started playing the popular DC superhero in 2016 when he debuted in the DC Entertainment Universe in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." Before he returns for his standalone "Aquaman" film next year, he will reprise his role in this year's "Justice League," where his character will join some of DC's mightiest superheroes in saving the world from a new threat.
Recently, it was reported that "Justice League" has just finished filming. In the upcoming film, Momoa's character is described as a child of two worlds, splitting his time between being a superhero on Earth and being the heir to the underwater kingdom Atlantis. In the first look video for his character, Momoa said, "He comes from two different worlds. He's half man half Atlantean."
With "Justice League" currently in post-production, Warner Bros. has dropped a new promo image for the film, highlighting Aquaman. The new photo was shared by Games Radar over the weekend, showing Momoa taking a dip and seemingly determined to accomplish something. What makes this image special is that while previous teasers for the film showed Aquaman fishing out of water on dry land, this recent release shows the superhero in his natural habitat.
There are speculations that this image has to do with the previously-teased spat scene of Aquaman with Ciaran Hinds' Steppenwolf, the main baddie in the upcoming film. Some also speculate that Aquaman might just be swimming towards a friend in the depicted scene, but that remains to be seen.
"Justice League" is set to open in theaters on Nov. 17. Meanwhile, the "Aquaman" standalone film will hit theaters on Dec. 21, 2018.
