'Justice League: Part 1' Movie News: Tyrese Gibson to Wear Green Lantern's Magical Ring?
Is Warner Bros. considering actor Tyrese Gibson playing the role of Green Lantern for its upcoming DC movie "Justice League: Part 1?" This question has thrown DC fans further off their balance after Gibson himself hinted that there is a possibility for him to wear the power-wielding ring of the DC superhero when he guested on the "Larry King Show" recently.
"You know, there have been other artists, actors and actresses who have put up images of them as a comic book character and ended up landing a role. So I was like, it's worth giving it a shot," shared Gibson in the said interview.
When King asked him if "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" director Zack Snyder, who is also set to lend his directing skills to the "Justice League" movie, has gotten in touch with him, Gibson answered that the director hasn't. However, he revealed that he had already met with Warner Bros., and there is a good chance for him to bag the role.
In the event that Gibson is, indeed, chosen by Warner Bros. and DC to be Green Lantern, there is a high possibility that his superhero will have John Stewart as his alter-ego as the latter is the only known black Green Lantern. In 2011, "Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds top-billed the "Green Lantern" movie as Hal Jordan, aka Green Lantern.
Earlier, it was speculated that actor Dan Amboyer will be introduced as Green Lantern in the current blockbuster "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." However, spoiler alert, the movie starts and ends without even a shadow of Amboyer despite having been listed by IMDB initially as a cast member, playing the role of a drone pilot.
For the time being, the only confirmed cast members of "Justice League: Part 1" to don superhero costumes are Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot, who will all reprise their Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman roles, respectively, in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." Also introduced in the current blockbuster via the cameo roles that they play are Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher as The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg in respective order. Actress Amber Heard also confirmed her participation as Mera, Aquaman's wife and the queen of the Atlantis.
"Justice League: Part 1" is slated for a Nov. 16, 2017 release.
