'Justice League' Plot Details: Why Does Aquaman Not Have His Trident?

"Justice League" star Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman in the upcoming movie, discussed the finer points of his character's weapon. In a recent interview, the actor clarified that in the movie, Aquaman will not be using his signature trident.

"I didn't call it a trident," Momoa explained to their host in a recent interview with WSVN-TV Miami. In the show, he was joined by Ray Fisher, who plays Cyborg, and Ben Affleck, who portrays Batman as they talk about all things related to the upcoming "Justice League" movie.

"It's a quindent," the actor continued, noting how they were careful not to refer to it as a trident in the film. "We don't call it that in the movie and when you watch 'Aquaman' you're going to see him go for the trident, so everyone's just got to stay tuned for a hot minute," he explained.

The five-pointed steel-colored weapon that Aquaman is shown holding in many of the promotional materials for "Justice League" actually belongs to Mera (Amber Heard), as seen in one of several preview clips for the movie. At that point in the story, Aquaman does not have his signature weapon yet, and is less confident about his status as a hero.

"He's not the king yet," Momoa noted. "He looks to Mera and he goes, 'I need to borrow something. I need you to do me a favor.' So that's when she gives him the equipment," the actor added, explaining how Aquaman got hold of his quindent.

Aquaman is more Arthur than Atlantean king at the point in the timeline that the events of "Justice League" occur in, as Screen Rant noted. As such, he's less ruler and more a hesitant figure, as he shared earlier with Entertainment Weekly.

"Justice League" is coming out in theaters on Friday, Nov. 17.
