Justin Bieber and 'Gangnam Style': Song Tops 'Baby' With 806 Million Hits
YouTube has a new king after Psy's "Gangnam Style" beat Justin Bieber's "Baby" video and became the site's most-viewed video of all time on Saturday.
The South Korean rapper took to Twitter in celebration Saturday.
"#GangnamStyle just became the most watched video @YouTube!! #History," Psy posted.
The electro-pop song by the 34-year-old has swept the Internet along with its video. The clip has accumulated over 806 million views since its initial posting on July 15, 2012, and that number continues to rise.
Meanwhile, Bieber's first hit song "Baby" has garnered just over 803 million views since 2010.
Psy's hit song skyrocketed to the top in YouTube in a fraction of the time it took Bieber. It comes as no surprise that Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, recently took on Psy as a client.
"Gangnam Style" continues to be watched between 7 million and 10 million times every day, while "Baby" sees between 350,000 and 500,000 daily views, according to YouTube.
Moreover, "Gangnam Style" has acquired 5.3 million "Likes" on YouTube, making it the Most Liked Video on the site, while Bieber's "Baby" video has 1.4 million "Likes."
"Gangnam Style" remains No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100, and Psy's performance at the American Music Awards last week still has fans talking.
MC Hammer joined Psy on stage as they remixed "Gangnam Style" with the hit song of the 1990s, "2 Legit 2 Quit."
An 2012 AMA winner of the night, Bieber added his thoughts on the performance via Twitter.
"and Hammer killed it. Haha," wrote the 18-year-old.
At the time MC Hammer posted his reactions to the surprise performance as well.
"Me and my man Psy after our AMA2012 performance tonight #epic," wrote the 50-year-old American rapper on Twitter, along with a photo.
Hammer, or Stanley Burrell, rapidly rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He is best known for his song "Can't Touch This."
He later added his thanks to fans via Twitter.
"Thank you all," wrote MC Hammer. "I do it for you. You inspire me. #SALUTE #Love4thePeople"
"God's Grace Is Sufficient," added the artist. "All Glory to God. #2Legit2Quit"
