Justin Bieber 'Baby Mama' Could Face Rape Charges
The woman who claims Justin Bieber fathered her baby during a concert at the Staples Center may be investigated for having sex with a minor if her tale proves to be true.
According to the Mirror, Mariah Yeater, 20 can be in legal trouble because Justin Bieber was 16 at the time she alleged to have had sex with him.
Technically under California law, having sex with anyone under 18 it is considered a misdemeanor count punishable by up to a year in jail.
Mariah Yeater filed a paternity suit against the teen star in San Diego Superior Court, alleging that Bieber is the father of her child and asked for financial support. Yeater said she had a tryst with Bieber at an L.A. concert at the Staples Center.
The pop star and his press rep have adamantly denied the allegations. Bieber’s spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, called it “malicious, defamatory and demonstrably false.”
“We will vigorously pursue all available legal remedies to defend and protect Justin against these allegations,” he said previously in a statement.
One of Yeater’s lawyers, Matthew Pare has said that it is important to confirm who the father is and Yeater is just looking for adequate child support.
“The most important thing for our client is letting her baby know who his father is,” Pare said, according to The Mirror.
According to Pare, he and his client have not been contacted by authorities or Bieber’s representatives.
Although no criminal complaint was reported regarding the possible statutory rape, Los Angeles police Cmdr. Andrew Smith has said the department could initiate an investigation.
“If it’s brought to our attention, of course we’ll look into it,” said Smith, as reported by AP.
A hearing on the matter is schedule for Dec. 15.
