Justin Bieber 'Boyfriend' Sells 520,000 in First Week (VIDEO)
Justin Bieber's latest single "Boyfriend" has sold over half a million downloads during its first week, earning the singer the second highest number of first week sales ever.
"Boyfriend," which offers Bieber fans a more mature sound, sold at least 520,000 downloads during its debut week, beating renowned pop group the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" (which sold 465,000 downloads) and pop sensation Lady GaGa's "Born This Way" (which sold 447,000 downloads), according to Digital Spy.
Although Bieber, 18, was unable to beat the record for Flo Rida's song "Right Round," which sold 636,000 in its first week, "Boyfriend" has reached no. 1 on the iTunes charts in at least 33 countries.
The single, which continues to leave Bieber fans swooning at the knees, has become so in demand that the singer was forced to push forward its U.K. release date.
"UK FANS!! You helped get Carly Rae Jepsen to #1 on ITUNES and you have been requesting BOYFRIEND at radio. So instead of BOYFRIEND coming out on ITUNES may 20th, it will now come out THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 8th!! LEGGO! thanks!" Bieber wrote via his Facebook page.
With the help of Bieber, Rae instantly became an international success after he promoted her single "Call Me Maybe" on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.
The singer recently released a teaser to his latest single, and since it was uploaded to social networking site YouTube on Friday, it has already received over 4 million views.
"The concept of this video, I mean it's not like a steady concept. It's not like 'Justin follows this girl to this spot.' No, it's a bunch of amazing scenes: Like a fire scene, we have an ice scene," Bieber told MTV news about the video for "Boyfriend."
"It's kind of like bouncing back and forth. And then there's scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It's fun," he added.
The 20 second sneak peak video has received rave reviews, with millions of fans flocking to Twitter to share individual reviews.
"I cant wait til the whole @justinbieber #Boyfriend vid comes out , i keep watching the teaser, i got #BieberFever," Ali Nicole tweeted.
"Can't get over the video teaser for Boyfriend. JB keeps improving... The face, the hair ugh @) http://pic.twitter.com/zUdoVNcr," Jenna Ilao tweeted.
The video for "Boyfriend" is expected to be released in coming weeks.
