Justin Bieber Eye Tattoo (PHOTO): Singer Says He Won't Regret New Tattoo, Symbolism Explained
Justin Bieber's mother, Pattie Mallette, is the inspiration behind his eye tattoo, the creator of the inking has explained recently.
Keith "Bang Bang" McCurdy, the New York City-based tattoo artist behind Bieber's latest tattoo, recently explained the symbolism behind the singer's body art.
"It felt like a good spot for it to sit for him. I didn't feel like it was bizarre at all, people often get an eye to symbolize many things. For him, it was just like his mother watching over, kind of like a protective thing," McCurdy told MTV news recently. "It's totally from mama. We were talking about how we both have tattoos for our mothers and how it's something you'll never regret."
The eye etched on the inside of Bieber's left elbow was chosen from some photography that the pair picked, although it was meant to symbolize his mother's protective watch.
After one of Bieber's many inkings this year, Mallette admitted that she wasn't always informed about his decisions to get new tattoos. Bieber's mother found out about his "X" tattoo in the media the same way many of his fans did.
Mallette went on WLNY-TV's The Couch earlier this year where she expressed surprise concerning her son's new ink.
"See, sometimes I find out things like this … the same way as everyone else," she told WLNY-TV host Carolina Bermudez. "I saw that like seriously five minutes before I came on [The Couch]. I was looking at something and I said, 'Is that a new tattoo?'"
The singer who has over 20 tattoos may be addicted to getting the body art, according to McCurdy.
"I'm not sure what his next tattoo will be, but we both joked about how we are addicted to tattoos," he told E! News recently. "He joked, saying he's only 19, and he already has this many tattoos. The tattoo took about 30 minutes, and we left when the sun came up, which was pretty cool."
