Justin Bieber Wears Women's Jeans 'Because They Fit Me'
Justin Bieber and his millions of devoted female fans might have something in common: their jeans.
The proud Christian teen heartthrob said he doesn’t let the gender of the jeans dictate which clothes he wears. If a pair of women’s jeans fit better – he’ll wear them.
"I've worn women's jeans before because they fit me,” Bieber told Life and Style magazine while attending the Dolce & Gabbana's Fashion's Night Out event at New York Fashion Week.
“It's not a trend. It's just, whatever works, works,” he added.
While men wearing “skinny jeans,” which mimic the skintight look of women’s jeans, is something seen with great regularity, men cramming their thighs into women’s jeans is a growing trend.
According to the U.K.'s Daily Mail, straight men are attracted to women’s jeans for the better choice of cuts, edgier styles, and better fits.
And it’s not just women’s jeans that attract men – but women’s coats, scarves, bags, and even eyeliner, as well. Even world-renowned soccer star David Beckham has flirted with eyeliner and purses.
According to Karl Plewka, stylist and contributing editor to Vogue and Interview magazine, it’s all about looking more “original, rock n’ roll, and sexy.”
“It's not just about feminine touches,” Plewka said, “but a return to the androgynous, skinny look of the early Seventies."
But Bieber insists wearing women’s clothes is not about trying to look like a woman. He defended fellow trendsetter Kanye West for recently wearing a woman’s sweater.
“It wasn't [so he'd] look like a woman in a sweater,” Bieber said. “It was just a regular sweater that happened to be a woman's.”
