Justin Bieber's Manager Signs 'Gangnam Style' Sensation Psy as Video Hits 100 Million YouTube Views
Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, has signed "Gangnam Style" rapper, Psy, to his record label Schoolboy Records.
The South Korean pop star has taken the Internet by storm with his music video for smash worldwide hit "Gangnam Style" receiving 102 million views on YouTube in just a month and a half. Psy has caught the attention of music producers worldwide, who can see the fresh, fun-filled style of music Psy brings could potentially spurn off more hits in the future. However, it is Scooter Braun who has moved in first and signed Psy up.
Braun took to YouTube on Monday to break the news: "We've been hanging out in California for four days. And we've come to an agreement to make some history together and be the first Korean artist to break a big record in the United States."
Braun can be seen drinking the Korean alcohol, Soju, next to the singer, as he says, "To Psy, to Korea, to breaking down barriers, to the future. Let's do it man."
The deal with Braun should ensure that Psy does not just appear in the West as a viral video flash in the pan, but that he can now move on to become a legitimate pop star. Following the success of "Gangnam Style" he already has a hoard of fans in the United States, and if promoted right, with the right material, a follow-up track could potentially land big in the U.S.
Braun has a solid record in the industry and Psy is in one of the safest pair of hands in the business. He manages Justin Bieber, who himself if a YouTube viral sensation, as well as Carly Rae Jepsen.
