Kaley Cuoco New Hairdo: Big Bang Theory Actress Explains 'Horrific' SAG Bangs (PHOTO, VIDEO)
Kaley Cuoco's new hairdo sparked widespread backlash and criticism when she was seen sporting a new hairstyle with bangs at January's SAG Awards. However, she has now explained why her hair looked like that, and she admits that the hairdo was "horrific."
In an interview with late night TV talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, the hugely popular Big Bang Theory actress explained that the bizarre hairdo was in fact an attempt to cover up a huge black eye.
Cuoco claimed that it was in fact Big Bang Theory co-star and on-screen love interest, Johnny Galecki, who had given her the shiner by punching her in the face.
However, the punch is not as dramatic as one would think, and the 27 year old actress explained that the incident happened while the cast members were rehearsing a new scene for the hit TV show.
The scene was in fact one where the characters were supposed to be fighting. But Galecki and Cuoco decided to play a trick on the other cast and crew by pretending to actually get into a real fight.
Things seemed to be going as planned until Galecki threw what was supposed to be a fake punch. Problem was that the fake punch became a real punch, when Galecki's swing actually connected with Cuoco's face.
Cuoco explained to Kimmel: "They [the crew] thought I went under [the table] and sprayed blood on my face. I had cracked my head open and I had blood squirting down my face. I didn't even know. I had no idea."
The punch had floored her and had opened up a serious gash with blood pouring down her face. She was later given medical treatment and needed six stitches for the cut.
The punch also left her with a big bruise, and as a result Cuoco and her makeup team came up with a new hairdo to try and cover the shiner up for the SAG Awards. The new hairdo did not go down well with fans or fashionistas, with Omg! describing the hairdo as "fringey, face-framing, fake-looking bangs and straightened hair."
Cuoco told Kimmel: "It was really, really bad, so I decided to have the brilliant idea to get bangs. As you can see I don't have bangs so I had to get fake bangs."
She added: "A bunch of [stylists] said 'let's maybe not do the bangs,' but I wanted to wear them because it covered my eye and I was really insecure about this huge black eye."
Cuoco joked that she had now named the bangs "Bev," and said that they "almost ruined my career."
She went on to read out some of the harsh comments she had received about the new hairdo online. She said, "It was honestly the worst reviewed hair in history."
Later in the show she and Kimmel agreed to tie the bangs to a bunch of helium balloons and release them off the roof of the Kimmel studios to great cheers from fans.
