Kan. Couple Refuse to Tip Gay Waiter; Say His Lifestyle Is 'Affront to God'

A Kansas couple has drawn criticism for writing an offensive note to a gay waiter after dining at a restaurant, instead of giving him a tip for his good service. "Your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to God… We hope you will see the tip your fag choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly," they wrote on the receipt.

"Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to GOD," wrote the couple to the 20-year-old waiter, who has chosen to remain anonymous, at the Carrabba's Italian Grill in Overland Park, Kan., last week.

"Queers do not share in the wealth of GOD, and you will not share in ours," continued the couple, who have also not been identified by the media, according to KMBC. "It is never too late for GOD'S love, but none shall be spared for fags. May GOD have mercy on you."

When the waiter's friends and other customers came to know about the incident, they criticized the couple on social media. Many local residents sought to show their support by eating at the restaurant and giving a good tip to the server.

The waiter appreciated the support, but also said it was not needed. "The offers to help pay me back are much appreciated, but not at all needed. I'd prefer to let my work ethic and my service do the talking, nothing else," he was quoted as saying.

"We embrace diversity and believe in treating everyone with respect," the restaurant said in a statement.

Marvin Baker, a local former pastor who leads a Bible study group for LGBT members, also visited the restaurant to show support.

"I was angry. I said this is not Christian as I know it," 14news.com quoted Baker as saying. The pastor also met the server's mother, who also works as a hostess in the same restaurant. "This does not represent Christianity. I called them Pharisees," added Baker, who runs a Gay Christian Fellowship ministry. "God really loves us. And God does not advertise or promote hate. That is not love."

Baker told The Wichita Eagle if he had a chance to speak with the couple, he would say: "Ask the young man's forgiveness."
