Kandi Burruss Breaks Down When Defending Mother's Behavior
Kandi Burruss broke down in tears while defending the behavior of her overprotective mother dubbed "Momma Joyce" on "The Real Housewives of Atlanta."
Momma Joyce has vehemently disagreed with her singer-songwriter daughter's decision to marry her now fiance and broadcast producer Todd Tucker. After Momma Joyce's accused Burruss's friend and assistant Carmen of acting inappropriately with Tucker, fans of the Bravo TV reality television network witnessed an argument almost turn violent.
When Burruss appeared on Bravo TV late night show "Andy Cohen Live," she became emotional when one fan questioned if her mother was reacting in extreme ways because she was afraid of losing her daughter's financial backing. Burruss did not hesitate to defend her mother against the claims and broke down in tears while doing so.
"I don't care what y'all have to say," she said on the Andy Cohen show. "That's my mama! I'm going to make sure my mama's good."
Burruss made it clear that she was not moved by the criticism of fans who did not agree with her mother's behavior. The singer-songwriter and producer insisted that she would always provide for her mother.
"She don't have to talk to me. She don't have to say nothing to me," Burruss said. "That's my mama and y'all can Tweet 'til you get blue in the face, I don't care! She can have whatever she wants 'cause that's my mama!"
After a number of people took to Twitter to question why Burruss did not chastise her mother more for disrespecting her fiance, the singer wrote her response in the form of a Bravo TV blog.
"Everyone says stand up to your mama and blah, blah, blah, but believe it or not I do speak my mind to my mother. I just don't say it in some crazy disrespectful way, because she is my mother," Burruss wrote in her blog. "So to everyone who is screaming at me through the TV screen to 'do something about my mom,' I'm not sure exactly what you expect me to do."
Burruss continued to explain her point of view to fans.
"I can only say how I feel, and if she doesn't listen to me, then what," she questioned. "I don't believe in cutting off your relationship with your mom. So for now I'm just hoping that over time things will work out for the best."
