Kanye West Debuts New Song 'God Level' For ADIDAS World Cup Commercial
Rapper Kanye West released a new song entitled "God Level" this weekend, on the same day he reportedly wed fiancée Kim Kardashian in Italy. The well-known artist's song was released as the soundtrack to a new ADIDAS commercial for the upcoming 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The commercial, which is part of ADIDAS' "The Dream: All In or Nothing" campaign, features various star soccer athletes, including Lionel Messi, Dani Alves and Bastian Schweinsteiger, playing the aggressive game on the field while a snippet of West's drum-heavy song plays in the background. The song, scant on lyrics, mostly includes West repeating "God level" over and over as the commercial shows shots of the star athletes perfecting their craft, both on the field and at practice.
Critics who have heard West's most recent song liken it to other songs on his 2013 album "Yeezus." Sharan Shetty with Slate said the "pounding percussion and almost tribal beat" of "God Level" is reminiscent of the 2013 song "Black Skinhead" from the "Yeezus" album. 88-Keys, Hudson Mohawke, Mike Dean, and Noah Goldstein helped West in the production of his most recent track.
Mohawke tweeted that the edition of "God Level" accompanying the ADIDAS commercial is only part of the full version that will soon be released.
ADIDAS released the commercial featuring West's new song on the same day that the rapper wed reality television star Kim Kardashian in Florence, Italy where the wedding attendees stayed at the Italy Belmond Villa San Michele in Fiesole, a small town located in the Italian province.
Although West and Kardashian have kept details of their nuptials private, images from a photo booth reportedly stationed at the wedding reception show some of the notable guests who attended the couples' small soiree. The photo booth images posted online show artist John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen, hairdresser Clyde Haygood, and Jaden Smith, son of actor Will Smith and actress Jada Pinkett Smith.
According to E! News, guests dined on a three course meal that included pasta, fish, and beef before capping off the meal with a decadent seven layered wedding cake. Music included classic wedding songs and live performances, and after the reception, wedding guests were reportedly jetted to Paris, France, where paparazzi have taken several photos of West and Kardashian enjoying well-known Parisian sites, including the Avenue Montaigne.
