Kanye West: 'I have decided in 2020 to run for president,' rapper gets support from none other than the Democratic Party
On Sunday's huge night, Kanye West blew everyone's minds by his declaration of eyeing the 2020 presidential race, his interest for the White House stated during his speech after receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the highest honor in the MTV Video Music Awards.
"I don't know what I stand to lose after this, it don't matter though, because it ain't about me, it's about new ideas, bro, new ideas. People with ideas, people who believe in truth," he said. "And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president."
Although it is yet unclear if he is serious, the rapper followed up his epic and one-of-its-kind speech in the history of the VMAs with the admission of being under the influence of drugs.
It is worth noting that West, who was widely criticized for taking the mic from Taylor Swift and slamming her for getting an award in the 2009 VMAs, gave the "Bad Blood" singer a hug after he was presented with the award.
While the world is still under shock due to the big announcement, the Kardashian/Jenner clan showered their support for Kanye and bombarded social media with memes and hilarious posts about West's declaration.
Kendall Jenner, Khloé Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Kourtney Kardashian each had their posters to flaunt on Twitter, with Kourtney's blowing the roof off in her banner captioned "Keeping Up with the Kardashians Season 427: White House Edition."
Aside from the support of his wife's entire family, West also got the thumbs up from the Democratic Party. The Democrats took to Twitter and said, "Last night @kanyewest declared his candidacy for president in 2020. Welcome to the race, Mr. West. Glad to have you."
Meanwhile, fans continue to question the rapper's sincerity, but whether he is serious or not, he seems to have gained some institutional support, according to Entertainment Weekly.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said while speaking on Air Force One Monday that he is looking "forward to seeing what slogan [West] chooses to embroider on his campaign hat."
