Kardashians Sued Over Chroma Makeup Line? Sisters Accused of Copying Brand Name
Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian are being sued again, this time over their new Chroma cosmetics line following claims that they copied the name from a Hollywood business which sells similar products.
Michael Rey, the co-owner of Chroma Makeup in Beverly Hills, has accused the Kardashian sisters of trademark infringement over their new cosmetics brand and new reports suggest that he is now considering taking legal action over the debacle. Rey claims that the Kardashians' line cheapens his product brand and creates confusion in the marketplace, according to TMZ.
He argues that Chroma, a brand which allegedly took 12 years to establish, boasts an A-list clientele and he believes by potentially confusing his line with that of the Kardashians', clients may begin to shop elsewhere subsequently causing him to lose business.
The Kardashian sisters, who are renowned for endorsing countless products - some of which are their own, previously discussed potential names for their latest venture on their E! reality TV show "Keeping Up With The Kardashians." It is unclear whether they performed due diligence and the appropriate research prior to selecting Chroma as the brand name.
The makeup line will reportedly hit shelves at pharmacies and department stores across the U.S. including CVS, Sears, and Ulta in November.
The potential legal woes stemming from the cosmetics issue will only add to their long list of seemingly never ending legal cases. In February the Kardashians were slapped with a $5 million class action lawsuit for their roles in endorsing the weight loss product QuickTrim.
The suit charges that QuickTrim is "marketed by the defendants as a clinically proven formula that will increase metabolism, curb appetite and promote weight loss. In reality, QuickTrim's main ingredient is a large dose of caffeine, which the FDA has determined is not a safe or effective treatment for weight control," the Manhattan federal court filing states, according to the New York Post. The suit is said to be on-going.
