Karoline Leavitt: 4 key facts about Trump's 27-year-old White House press secretary
'Looks like I'm going back to work'
Leavitt, who married her older husband Nick in 2023, gave birth to her first child Nicholas on July 10, 2024.
According to The Conservateur, Leavitt was pregnant during the first six months of her tenure as national press secretary for the Trump campaign, and decided to forego maternity leave after watching Trump get shot during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.
The attempted assassination took place three days after she gave birth to her son Nicholas.
"I had just brought my newborn, my three-day-old baby home from the hospital. And I said, 'I’m going to turn on the television and watch the rally today,'" she told the outlet about July 13.
She recounted being overcome with emotion as she watched her boss narrowly avoid death.
"I looked at my husband and said, 'Looks like I’m going back to work.'"
Noting how other women had told her she would need eight weeks to recover from her difficult labor, Leavitt said she decided to return to work four days after giving birth.
"I felt compelled to be present in this historic moment," she said. "The president literally put his life on the line to win this election. The least I could do is get back to work quickly."
