Karrueche Tran Apologizes for Mocking Beyonce's Daughter Blue Ivy; BET Show Goes Off Air? (VIDEO)
Karrueche Tran issued an apology for making a tasteless joke about Beyonce's daughter Blue Ivy while co-hosting BET's "106 & Park" and the show is now rumored to be on a week-long hiatus.
On Monday the socialite, who is famous due to her involvement with Chris Brown, co-hosted the hip hop and R&B show and at one point ridiculed Beyonce's 2-year-old daughter in a VMAs segment. Tran read out the "top six things Blue Ivy thought about the VMAs."
"'I really did wake up like this because my parents never combed my hair,'" a giggling Tran said before adding "Sorry, Blue! I love you!"
Critics on social media, namely Beyonce fans, immediately lashed out at the model, 26, for her tasteless joke. Tran, along with the BET network have since issued apologies.
"106 & Park" normally airs on BET from Monday to Friday, however, a new episode will reportedly not air until September 8.
"Past two days have been extremely draining.. As I geared up for a big day for myself - hosting a live show.. I never expected things to turn out this way.. I apologize to any and everyone who felt offended in any way by the comments made by BET executed through me..," Tran wrote via Instagram on Tuesday.
Stephen G. Hill, president of music programming and specials for BET Networks, also apologized and insisted that Tran is not to blame.
"Last night on 106 & Park there was a stupid, unthoughtful joke made about a young child. We apologize publically to the child's parents (and have done so privately) and we have taken punitive actions with those responsible," Hill wrote in a series of tweets. "Oh, and please don't hate on Karrueche; it was NOT her fault. We also apologize to her for putting her in that position."
Earlier this year Beyonce and Jay Z's daughter was the subject of a change.org campaign urging the famous couple to comb her hair. The petition received more than 5000 supporters, however, the creator later confirmed that it was just a joke and not to be taken seriously.
Tran's off-color joke about Blue reignited debates about natural hair, which at times can be a sensitive topic amongst the African American community.
On Sunday Beyonce, who performed a mini concert at the VMAs, was presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award – otherwise known as the Lifetime Achievement Award. It recognizes artists who have had a profound impact on MTV and pop culture.
