Kate Beckinsale is Returning to 'Underworld: Next Generation'

Kate Beckinsale is back for the fifth time as Selene, her vampire character in the action-thriller film franchise "Underworld." The English actress has recently signed on to come back in the fifth installment of the movie series called "Underworld: Next Generation."

Beckinsale plays the lead character, Selene, who is a vampire and a Death Dealer tasked to kill Lycans, or werewolves. The Lycan and vampire clans are eternally at war with each other and this is emphasized in the numerous fight scenes in the movies. Her character is also a part of the inner circle of vampires who are close to the Vampire Elders, who are considered the leaders of the clan.

The film will be helmed by Anna Foerster who is the first woman director to take on a film in the franchise. Previous directors were male. She will work on a script by Cory Goodman. While details about the film's plot are being kept under wraps, it is said to be about a new and younger generation of vampires and werewolves who are "locked in a seemingly never-ending battle" between the clans.

His character is a vampire who is fascinated with the life of death dealers, and wishes to bring it back. At the end of the film, he was killed but was revived by Selene.

The fifth film was originally planned to be a reboot of the franchise, but later on, it was decided that it will be a new entry in the franchise. Production starts in Prague in October, with the film set to be released in 2016 by Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems. Producers of the film are Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi.
