Kate Beckinsale Not Likeable? (VIDEO)
Kate Beckinsale, an actress in movies like "Pearl Harbor" and "Serendipity," has said that she is not interested in playing likable roles.
The actress, who garnished a reputation as an action star after her role in “Underworld”, told Manhattan magazine that the experience has opened her up to be a more serious and versatile actress.
“'Underworld' forced me out of my head, and I really needed that done. Now I can put myself through things I find horrifying and emotional and know I will survive,” Beckinsale said.
The actress has three movies set to come out in 2012. In the first, she will star in a crime thriller as the wife of a former criminal. She will also return as Selene in “Underworld: Awakening” the fourth movie in the series. According to Collide.com, Beckinsale was not sure at first about making a fourth movie but said that the script was enough to convince her. “You really want to see stakes that mean something in these kind of movies. Otherwise, it really is just lots of explosions and people running around in tight clothes."
In her last film for 2012, Beckinsale will star in “Total Recall” a sci-fi film directed by her husband. The actress explained to Manhattan magazine that she was sometimes picky about which roles she plays.
"I'm not attracted to characters who are instantly likable, nor am I that interested in making them likable,” Beckinsale said. “My goal is to make them real, to find what makes them human and empathetic, to trace a certain logic that explains why a character is how she is."
