Kate Middleton Birthday Shopping While William Starts School

Duchess Kate Middleton engaged in some retail therapy while husband Prince William started his classes at Cambridge University. Retailers did not even know their customer was so famous until much later.

The Duchess turns 32 on Thursday and perhaps did some shopping as pre-celebration given that her husband is out of town. Middleton spent the day with her mother, Carole, and enjoyed relative anonymity as she perused the various shops in town.

"You wouldn't have known it was Kate Middleton," Louisa Smith, a fellow shopper, told People magazine. "The shop is always quite calm anyway, and there wasn't a great deal of people around. It was only when I did a double-take that I realized it was her. She was absolutely beautiful. She has a very magnetic energy about her. She looked absolutely stunning. It was nice to see her doing ordinary stuff!"

Of course, Middleton has always strived to keep her life relatively normal. Before moving into Kensington Palace, she and William would do their own shopping and go for jogs around town. They were treated as regular people and enjoyed the perks of civilian life. However, that seemingly changed with the move into the Palace.

William recently signed on to study agricultural management at Cambridge University, the very university where his father, Prince Charles, is the patron. He began classes this week, bringing plenty of attention to the school and the agricultural program. The 10-week course will provide William with an insight into the lives of farmers and the challenges they face in the business world.

Kate, meanwhile, will turn 32 on Thursday and likely celebrate a low-key birthday with family, including her son, Prince George. William may return from Cambridge for the day but will still have to keep up with his homework and school schedule. The Prince is currently residing in an area closer to the school in order to make commuting easier.
