Kate Middleton Rotting Teeth Magazine Cover Causes Outrage

The U.S. magazine The New Republic has given world-famous royal Kate Middleton a drastic and controversial makeover on their cover this month.

Ordinarily well known for her smart looks, the Duchess of Cambridge graces the cover with rotting teeth. The heavily photoshopped image of the 30-year-old comes complete with the headline, "Something's Rotten. The Last Days of Britain."

Britons have responded to the cover with anger, with many interpreting the superimposed image as being disrespectful to the Royal Family, as well as Americans furthering the stereotype that all English have brown, crooked, or otherwise garish-looking teeth.

Reactions range from readers of the U.K.'s Daily Mail defending Middleton to others finding the morphed picture of the Duchess laughable.

"Not cool," wrote one commenter. "I am not an imperialist (not even close!), but she seems to be a genuine person. She is young, beautiful, and privileged. Apparently grave sins to many people."

Another added, "No fan of the royals or Kate either, but its a shameful abuse of photoshop taking very cheap and nasty shot at the royals, Kate and Brits in general. I agree with the person who said they should be sued."

Another read of a different publication, the Daily Mail, maintained that Middleton looked beautiful, rotten teeth or not.

"It's satire, get over it," posted the reader. "I for one think she still looks lovely with rotten teeth."

Despite her alter ego in the magazine, Middleton is an international fashion icon. She has wowed the industry during her inaugural year as British royalty and even influenced fashion trends such as sheer stockings and long-sleeved wedding gowns.
