Kate Middleton, Prince William Reveal Modest Side by Flying Economy From Royal Wedding
Passengers were left stunned as younger members of the British Royal family chose to fly back from Zara Phillip’s Scotland wedding using cheap budget airlines rather than private jets.
Modest royals, Prince William and Kate Middleton boarded a Flybe plane with other passengers in Edinburgh for the hour-long journey to Manchester. Needless to say passengers, many of whom had watched the royals attending the “other royal wedding”, were dumb-founded.
Reports have indicated that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge flew with bodyguards but used the regular checking-in and security procedures as the rest of the other passengers.
Flybe does not even have a separate first class section, and so the royal couple, who married in April, sat alongside other travelers. Flybe does offer an option to travelers to upgrade to “Economy Plus” which is basically the same as regular economy, but offers complimentary drinks and snacks during the flight.
It is believed the royals would have paid about $60 for the one-way flight from Edinburgh to Manchester.
Prince William and Kate were not the only royals to reveal their more-modest side; brother Prince Harry also traveled home from Zara Phillip’s wedding to London by budget airline Easyjet. It is believed that Harry also flew to Edinburgh for the wedding on the same airline; where his ticket reportedly cost in the region of $25.
The Duke and Duchess traveled to Manchester because Prince William is based at Anglesey for the British Royal Air Force.
Upon landing some degree of normality was returned to as Prince William and Kate Middleton were immediately picked up by a private car direct from the airfield.
That move would have disappointed airport bosses at Manchester, who recently splashed out $32,500 on refurbishing the Royal Lounge inside the terminal. However, with the royal couple not even entering the terminal, bosses will have to wait a bit longer to receive any feedback on their investment.
According to The Daily Mail, a Manchester Airport spokesman said: “With the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge living not too far away in North Wales, we were hoping to see them more often and become their local international airport of choice and we are looking forward to welcoming them through our doors over the coming years. We've even given our Royal Lounge a makeover in time for their next visit.”
