Kate Middleton Latest Baby News: Spends Evening With Local Scouts in East London
A few days after Prince William and Kate Middleton attended several engagements in New York City, the royal couple is back in the U.K. and went on separate visits to the organizations that they are supporting.
While the Prince went to an early-morning visit to homeless charity Centrepoint, the Duchess of Cambridge attended a Beaver Scout meeting in Bow, East London on Tuesday, Dec. 16 to help the children earn a badge. The Duchess, who is five months pregnant with her second child, was dressed casually in a black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and boots as she joined in the activities for the evening.
The Duchess went to the meeting at Old Ford Primary School to highlight the Scout Association's new campaign, Better Prepared, and the evening's purpose was to help the children learn about life with disabilities.
It was reported that the children did not know about the visit, and as the Duchess arrived one child exclaimed, "Oh my God, it's Princess Kate."
The Duchess appears to have enjoyed her visit as she attempted small tasks such as chopping up a chocolate bar and eating it while wearing boxing gloves to simulate those with mobility or coordination problems, and she was also photographed while she taught a child how to use chopsticks to pick up sweets during one activity.
The Duchess also guided a blindfolded child as he attempted to ice a cupcake before attempting the activity herself. She used her Scout scarf to cover her eyes while Fynley Gooch, 7, guided her in decorating the cake. The Duchess joined the 20 Beavers seating in a circle and went around, presenting each with a disability awareness badge.
Then, she joined all the scouts in using sign language to say the Scout's Promise before singing along to their farewell song, "Goodnight Beavers."
After the Duchess left, Beaver scout colony leader Carlos Lopez-Plandolit said to the reporters gathered to cover the visit, "It was amazing. She's really spontaneous. She's naturally gifted with children. I think she had a great time."
