Kate Miner Releases Floodgate Records Debut Tomorrow

Worship leader and prolific songwriter Kate Miner will be releasing her Floodgate Records debut, Prodigal Martha, tomorrow nationwide on Word Distribution/WEA.

Produced by David Miner, (Elvis Costello, T-Bone Burnett), Prodigal Martha was recorded in early 2005 in Nashville, TN with a host of amazing players participating on the project, including Phil Keaggy, Ramy Antoun (Seal), Gary Burnette (John Wesley Harding), and Steve Hindalong (City on a Hill).

Aside from the music, Miner says that the most exciting thing about Prodigal Martha is that, “it’s a concept that is notably not talked about.”

“In fact, the idea of Martha is actually promoted,” says Miner. “We are flooded with messages of goals, living with a purpose, etc. And that is important, but what isn’t cultivated is stillness that actually can happen in the midst of all the stuff of life.”

“While doing this record, the Lord showed me that all the good I was doing was actually pulling me from Him,” Miner continues. “I was more concerned with doing the right things instead of building that relationship. And the beauty of worship music is that no matter where you go, someone gets free. Too often, it’s the only part of the day that is just about God. But amazing things happen when people get together and are ready for worship.”

Having publicly performed music since the age of four, Kate Miner’s inspiration for the songs on Prodigal Martha came at a unique time of “silence” for the artist. After having moving to Nashville in 2002, Miner was diagnosed in late 2003 with polyps on her vocal chords. After surgery, the healing required Miner not to speak for an entire week, and then only increasing 5 minutes a day for the following weeks.

According to a press release, Prodigal Martha, is a display of Miner’s, “true heart, refusing to compartmentalize her life from her art, her spirituality from her humanity, her family from her ministry or the calling of God from her identity,” with each track designed to, “lead the listener to a place of understanding that life with Christ includes both a time for action and a time for peace and joy and quiet. And that in Jesus, there is all we need. Period.”

When asked about the project, Tim Taber, owner of Floodgate Records, states, “I have been a fan of Kate’s music for the past ten years. The fact that we get to put out her album and expose her music to people all over the world is really special for me. She is totally unique in what she does. I think Prodigal Martha really shows her heart and her depth as an artist.”

Fans can catch Miner performing songs from the new album at the Malibu Vineyard, Malibu CA June 26th and at this year’s Cornerstone Festival.
